Am I insured for repatriation by charter air ambulance for skiing-related injuries (‘gipsvlucht’)?
No, you will not be reimbursed for repatriation by charter air ambulance for skiing-related injuries (‘gipsvlucht’) if you have an accident during a skiing holiday.
When do I have to pay the premium for the insurance?
You pay the premium:
- in advance for the entire insured period
- per month, quarter, half year or year
You do not have to pay a premium surcharge for payment in instalments.
If you choose to pay by ‘bank transfer’, you will not be able to pay per month or quarter.
Will I get the Dutch healthcare allowance (zorgtoeslag) if I take out the OOM Studying in the Netherlands health insurance?
The Dutch healthcare allowance is a contribution to the costs of Dutch national health insurance. OOM Verzekeringen does not offer Dutch national health insurance. You will therefore not receive any Dutch healthcare allowance.
Alteration, extension or termination
Can I extend my insurance?
You may extend the OOM Studying in the Netherlands Insurance once, for a maximum of 30 days provided that the total time you are insured does not exceed five years. If you need insurance for longer, you can apply for the OOM Studying in the Netherlands Insurance again. We will then assess your application and the health declaration. If you don’t know how long you will need insurance, it is therefore better to choose a longer period rather than one that may be too short.
Can I terminate my insurance earlier?
You can terminate the OOM Studying in the Netherlands Insurance at any time. You can do this via My OOM or by sending us an email. We will terminate the insurance on the date we receive your request. We will refund you if you have already paid the premium for the period after the termination date. You cannot terminate your insurance retrospectively.
Am I insured if I return home in between times?
If you go home in between times or travel outside the Netherlands, you will still be insured with the OOM Studying in the Netherlands Insurance. As long as you are not outside the Netherlands for more than 50 consecutive days.
Can I take out OOM Dental cover or the package insurance separately?
You can take out package insurance separately. With the package insurance you are insured for household contents, liability, travel, legal assistance and accidents. These types of insurance can only be taken out as a package, not as separate items.
OOM Dental cover can only be taken out in combination with the OOM Studying in the Netherlands health insurance.
Are sports and extreme sports also covered?
Medical expenses following an accident during sport or extreme sport fall under your health insurance. Providing you did not act with intent or recklessness.
High-risk sports are not covered by personal accident insurance. Sports such as off-piste skiing, rock climbing, white-water rafting and parachuting are some examples. An accident during your occupation as a professional or semi-professional sportsperson is not covered.
What is medical acceptance?
Medical acceptance applies to OOM Studying in the Netherlands Insurance. This means that you will first have to answer a few questions about your health and medical situation. We estimate the risk of you incurring medical expenses throughout the duration of the insurance based on this ‘health declaration’.
The health declaration and the assessment by our medical advisor may mean that:
- you can take out insurance
- you cannot take out insurance
- we will insure you under modified terms and conditions, such as not providing cover for diseases for which you have an increased risk
