Insurance for an internship in the Netherlands

You can take out the OOM Studying in the Netherlands Insurance. This is an insurance for internships in the Netherlands, giving you the same cover you would have at home. For your healthcare costs, but also for claims for loss and damage, etc.

Good to know: this insurance is for interns up to the age of 29. If you don’t fall into this age category, please take a look at the OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands Insurance.

If you are a foreigner coming to the Netherlands for an internship, it is compulsory to have insurance for healthcare costs. You may be covered by the basic Dutch national health insurance during your internship here. This is the case if you receive an internship allowance which is higher than the minimum wage in the Netherlands and if you also pay social security contributions in the Netherlands.

If you are not covered by the basic Dutch national health insurance and the health insurance in your country of origin is also not valid in the Netherlands, you will have to take out another form of health insurance such as the OOM Studying in the Netherlands insurance.

The healthcare insurance gives you the following benefits:

• Choose either standard cover or extended cover
• Choice of excess of € 0 or € 150
• Standard dental costs insured up to € 450 (up to age 17)

Insurance Package

This is an insurance package which covers the following:

• household contents (up to € 5,000)
• personal liability (up to € 1,250,000; no cover for damage to items such as those you are renting or leasing)
• travel (own risk excess of € 125 in the event of theft, loss or damage to luggage)
