Transport of mortal remains

The OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance is a medical insurance if you are staying in the Netherlands temporarily. The insurance reimburses unexpected medical expenses.

On death, we will reimburse (up to a maximum of €10,000) the costs of:

  • direct transport of the mortal remains to the country of origin and other transport costs
  • an inner coffin required by applicable regulations

If you die due to an existing ailment or complaint you already had on taking out insurance, we will not reimburse the costs of transporting the mortal remains. This also applies if you did not know you had the ailment or complaint at the time you took out the insurance.

An excess applies to OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance. If you incur costs which are covered by the insurance, you pay the first part of these costs yourself. Per period insured your excess is:

  • €50 if you are younger than 70 years
  • €100 if you are aged between 70 and 79 years
  • €200 if you are aged 80 and above

Your foreign cousin, aged 53, dies in an accident during his stay in the Netherlands. He was insured with us on an OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance. The transport costs of the mortal remains to the country of origin are €1,695. The excess is €75. We will reimburse €1,620.

You can claim your medical expenses quickly and easily via My OOM.
