Specialist treatments

The OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance is a medical insurance if you are staying in the Netherlands temporarily. The insurance reimburses unexpected medical expenses.

You will receive a reimbursement for specialist treatment if:

  • the treatment is carried out by a specialist doctor
  • the doctor is entered in a special register for this speciality

You will also receive reimbursement for additional medical expenses, such as X-rays, blood transfusion, outpatients' department, anaesthesia and a second opinion if the specialist suggests drastic medical treatment.

If you have a specialist treatment for an existing ailment or complaint you already had on taking out insurance, we will not reimburse these costs. This also applies if you did not know you had the ailment or complaint at the time you took out the insurance.

An excess applies to OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance. If you incur costs which are covered by the insurance, you pay the first part of these costs yourself. Per period insured your excess is:

  • €50 if you are younger than 70 years
  • €100 if you are aged between 70 and 79 years
  • €200 if you are aged 80 and above

You are 73 and you fell on your knee. A specialist inspects your knee and has an MRI scan done. The costs of the specialist and scan are €450. You have an excess of €100. You receive a reimbursement of €350.

You can claim your medical expenses quickly and easily via My OOM.
