Why is my premium going up?

Healthcare costs have risen sharply again throughout the world. We’re getting older, which is increasing the demand for care and for a better quality of life. New technologies and advanced treatments improve care, but also result in higher costs. In addition, the cost for the same treatment varies from one hospital to another, even if the quality of care is the same. All these factors contribute to the increase in your premium for healthcare costs.

Why is my premium increasing more than the premium for the Dutch basic health insurance?

OOM offers international healthcare insurance for our clients over the whole world. Our premiums are determined by global healthcare costs. These may differ from costs trends in the Netherlands. Healthcare costs outside the Netherlands are currently increasing faster than healthcare costs in the Netherlands. This is why your premium might increase more than the premium of a Dutch health insurance.

Why do I have to request prior permission for medical treatments in the US?

In the US, costs are extremely high, and prices for medical treatments vary widely from one hospital to another. Each hospital can decide what they charge for treatment. This leads to large price differences for the same treatment. Despite the quality of care generally being similar. If you contact the OOM Assistance Centre in advance, we can help you find the best healthcare provider within our network. You get access to high-quality care and at the same time we can avoid excessive fees. This way we’re able to keep the insurance affordable for everyone. Both now and in the future.

Which treatments do I need to request prior permission for?

You are now required to contact the OOM Assistance Centre in advance for the following situations in the US: hospitalisation; specialist care; outpatient care; pregnancy and childbirth. This obligation does not apply to acute care.  

Do I also have to request prior permission for acute care?

No. You do not need prior permission for acute care. Acute care means all care that must be provided as soon as possible, but at least within a few minutes or hours, where the aim is to prevent damage to health or death from an acute life-threatening condition or accident.

I have a UHC pass, do I also need to request prior permission from the OOM Assistance Centre?

No. The UHC pas means you can go to health care providers in the UHC network. You do not need to request prior permission from the OOM Assistance Centre.

How do I request prior permission?

To request prior permission, you can contact the OOM Assistance Centre 24/7 by phoning +31 70 353 21 35. They will help you find a good healthcare provider near you.
