You’re traveling abroad. Either for business or pleasure. Suddenly, something unexpected happens. You have an accident or become ill and have to return to the Netherlands. This is called repatriation.
This is an unpleasant situation beyond your control. Fortunately, you can limit the consequences by taking out repatriation insurance. Repatriation insurance is included if you take out healthcare insurance for a stay abroad with us.
Costs for repatriation can be high. For example, for an ambulance to the airport, the return flight to the Netherlands and the medical supervision. Dutch national health insurance does not cover these costs. Taking out additional repatriation insurance means you are covered for these costs.
We call our repatriation insurance ‘SOS insurance’. This insurance covers the costs of repatriation if treatment is not possible in the country where you are staying and if the treatment cannot be postponed. If this describes your situation, you are insured for:

You can take out our repatriation insurance separately. However, it is sometimes already included as standard with your other OOM insurance. For example, repatriation insurance is included if you take out healthcare insurance for a stay abroad with us. This includes when you take out Temporary Residence Abroad Insurance or Living Abroad Insurance.
Our repatriation insurance refunds your costs if you return to the Netherlands on medical grounds, or if you need to be evacuated to another country. To cover the costs if you need to return home for another reason, such as the serious illness of a family member, you can take out travel insurance with us.
