Choose the insurance options that best suit your needs

With OOM, you can put together your own Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance. You choose from basic necessary modules and select from our additional modules. This way, you can be certain that you’ll be properly insured during your stay in the Netherlands.

OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance covers necessary medical costs including:

Covered:

  • Visits to the General Practitioner
  • Prescribed medication
  • Specialist care
  • Hospitalisation
  • Dental costs following an accident up to €350

Not covered:

  • Not all medical expenses are covered. The main exclusion is pregnancy and childbirth, including complications or a miscarriage

Own risk excess
If you incur costs which are covered by the insurance, you sometimes pay the first part of the costs yourself. This is called own risk excess. This means you first pay a certain amount yourself before we reimburse the rest. This is how we keep premiums fair and affordable together.

This insurance has an own risk excess of €200. Sometimes, there is a maximum amount or a maximum number of treatments covered.

How much does the Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance cost?
The premium for the OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance depends on your age.

  • For 0 To 39 years of age: The premium is €92 per month. The own risk excess is €200 and the duration is 12 months
  • For 40 To 54 years of age: The premium is €138 per month. The own risk excess is €200 and the duration is 12 months
  • For 55 To 69 years of age: The premium is €207 per month. The own risk excess is €200 and the duration is 12 months

The minimum premium per period insured is €25.

OOM Dental Cover insures you for medically necessary dental costs that are not the result of an accident. This extra cover has no own risk excess.

  • The premium is €20.50 per month

If you want extra certainty during your stay in the Netherlands, you can also include liability. This insures you for damage you cause to other people or their property, up to a maximum of €1,250,000. 

The premium, including insurance tax, will be:

  • €6.35 per month for 1 person
  • €12.60 per month for 2 or more persons

About the insurance

The Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance has been specially developed for people who are staying in the Netherlands temporarily or are waiting for their residence permit or temporary residence permit visa. Our insurance provides cover for healthcare costs for foreigners in the Netherlands. As well as for unforeseen risks during your stay. 

If you’re coming to the Netherlands temporarily to live, work or visit family, OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance offers extensive cover for medical expenses if you don’t have Dutch national health insurance (yet).

  • Foreigners in the Netherlands
    Are you coming to the Netherlands to live and/or work, or are you not yet eligible for Dutch national health insurance? Our insurance provides you with the certainty of extensive cover for medical expenses in the Netherlands.
  • Visitors with foreign health insurance
    If you already have healthcare insurance in your homeland that’s also valid in the Netherlands, you might not need this insurance. Note: Costs for medical care might be higher in the Netherlands than in your home country. Our insurance helps you avoid unexpected costs.
  • Dutch residents temporarily returning to the Netherlands
    If you’re a resident of the Netherlands currently living abroad and are returning to the Netherlands temporarily, for example, for a family visit, the OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance is a practical solution.

You can take out OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance if you are younger than 70 years of age on the start date.

  • OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance applies in all countries that fall under the Schengen area at the time of an insured event, and also in the following countries: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Croatia, Romania and the United Kingdom.
  • The insurance does not apply in overseas territories of these countries such as Aruba, Bonaire or Curaçao.
  • Cover outside the Netherlands is limited to a maximum of 30 days during the total insured period.

Travelling by plane?

  • Your insurance will take effect from the moment you leave the territory of your home country on the most direct flight possible to the region of the cover area, without unnecessary stopovers. In other cases, cover starts as soon as you arrive in the region of cover.
  • The insurance ends once you return to your home country on a direct flight. If you have stopovers or you travel back with a different mode of transport, the cover will be terminated the moment you leave the region of cover.

Situations might change and you no longer need the OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance. You can terminate the insurance earlier and receive a refund of any prepaid premium in the following events: 

  • Your visa or residence permit has been denied 
    We’ll terminate the insurance from the start date and will refund all of the premium you’ve paid. 
  • You receive Dutch national health insurance 
    The insurance will stop on the start date of your Dutch national health insurance and we’ll refund the premium you’ve paid for cover after that date.
  • You leave the Schengen area 
    Send us a copy of your flight ticket. The flight date is the expiry date of your insurance and we’ll refund the premium you’ve paid for cover after that date.
  • Death of the insured person 
    The insurance expires from the day after death and any premium that was paid in advance will be reimbursed to the next of kin.

Medical acceptance is necessary for the healthcare insurance. For this, we may ask you or your healthcare provider additional questions. We assess your application based on this information, which may take extra time. This is why we recommend you apply for your insurance in plenty of time, to make sure you’re ready for your new adventure well in advance.

You can take out OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance for a maximum of 12 months. You determine the duration that suits your stay. If you want to stay insured for longer, you can take out the insurance again.

OOM abides by applicable sanctions legislation. This means that insurers may not provide cover or reimburse claims if to do so would violate the Sanctions Act or sanctions regulations.
