With OOM Studying abroad insurance for au pairs, you can choose standard or exdended cover. Depending on your choice there’s a maximum amount or a maximum number of treatments covered. You decide your own risk excess: €0 or €150.

If you want to add dental care to your insurance, the dental cover insures you for standard dental costs of up to €350 per year.
- This extra cover has no own risk excess
- The premium is €15.75 per month
OOM Studying Abroad insurance always includes SOS insurance. This includes cover for the costs of repatriation (return to your country of origin) or evacuation if treatment is not possible locally and cannot be postponed.
If you’re looking for more peace of mind during your stay abroad, the OOM Insurance Package means you’re insured for various types of damage in one package.
Covered:
- Household contents up to €5,000 (for your given address)
- Liability up to €1,250,000 (items that you’re renting or leasing are not covered)
- Travel: With an own risk excess of €125 in the event of theft, loss or damage to luggage
- Legal assistance for claims over €450
- Accidents: Payment on death €10,000, or in the case of permanent disability up to €75,000
Not covered:
- Household contents cover is only for your given address outside the Netherlands
- Items that you’re renting or leasing, for example, are not covered under your liability insurance
- You’ll not receive legal assistance for events you were already aware of before you took out insurance

In the case of damage to items, we often reimburse the replacement price. However, in some cases, we only reimburse the current value. Please note the following information: How depreciation works (only in Dutch).
How much does the OOM Insurance Package cost?
- €15.40 per month if you combine this package with the healthcare insurance
- €17.85 per month if you only take out the insurance package
The premium you see is always the actual amount you need to pay, including insurance tax.
About the insurance for au pairs
If you’re going to work abroad as an au pair, you can take out OOM Studying Abroad insurance. You choose the cover that fits your situation. Giving you reassurance, including if you visit the Netherlands while you’re living abroad.
This insurance is for you if you’re going abroad and:
- Are a student or an au pair aged between 15-29 years.
- If you unable to keep your Dutch national health insurance, but you still want to be properly insured for healthcare costs.
- You want to supplement your Dutch national health insurance, for example because you’re going to a country where costs for medical care are higher than in the Netherlands, or because you also want cover for planned care.
- You want to be insured - as you would be in the Netherlands - if things don’t go according to plan while you’re abroad.
If you’re younger than 15 or older than 30, take a look at a possible other insurance options.
You can take out Studying Abroad insurance for au pairs easily online. You decide which cover best suits your situation. Medical acceptance is necessary for the healthcare insurance. For this, we may ask you or your healthcare provider additional questions. We assess your application based on this information, which may take extra time. This is why we recommend you apply for your insurance in plenty of time, to make sure you’re ready for your new adventure well in advance.
OOM Studying Abroad insurance for au pairs can be taken out for a maximum of 5 years. You decide the duration; we provide the certainty.
- If your stay abroad is longer than planned, you can extend the insurance once by up to 60 days, as long as the total duration does not exceed 5 years.
What happens if you no longer need the insurance? You can cancel the insurance daily via your personal account, or by sending us an email. The insurance terminates on the date we receive your notification, or on the date provided by you. If you’ve already paid the premium in advance, we’ll refund any overpaid amount.
The premium depends on the cover you’ve chosen (standard or extended) and which own risk excess you opted for. The premium you see is always the actual amount you need to pay, including insurance tax.

OOM abides by applicable sanctions legislation. This means that insurers may not provide cover or reimburse claims if to do so would violate the Sanctions Act or sanctions regulations.
