Are you going abroad (temporarily)?
Then you can take out insurance with us designed specifically for Dutch nationals living abroad. We offer, among others, health, travel and accident insurance. Our insurance options are suitable if you are going abroad to:

Are you coming to the Netherlands (temporarily)?
Are you visiting family or friends in the Netherlands, or are you coming here to work or study? In that case, one of our insurance options for people coming to the Netherlands will suit you best. This ensures you are properly insured during your stay here.

Living Abroad insurance
With Living Abroad insurance Comfort or Deluxe cover, pregnancy is insured after a 12-month waiting period. If you increase your cover, the waiting period of 12 months applies from the amendment date. During these first 12 months, only pregnancy complications are covered. With a Living Abroad Regular cover, we only reimburse pregnancy complications when acute intervention is necessary.

Temporary Residence Abroad insurance 
Temporary Residence Abroad insurance does not cover pregnancy and childbirth. However, the Regular and Comfort cover do cover pregnancy complications where acute intervention is necessary.  

Studying Abroad insurance 
With Studying Abroad insurance, pregnancy is insured after a 12-month waiting period. 

For women who have been insured under this healthcare insurance for more than 12 months, we cover: Obstetric care by a specialist, general practitioner or midwife, and childbirth in a hospital or maternity hospital. 
With Standard cover, we reimburse a maximum of €4,000 for the entire pregnancy including childbirth. Under Extensive cover, we reimburse the cost price of treatment. 

Schengen Visitor and Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance 
Costs involving pregnancy and childbirth, or treatment to increase the chance of becoming pregnant are not covered, unless there is an unforeseen and unexpected pregnancy complication that occurred before week 32 of the pregnancy.  

Always check your policy terms and conditions to see what is and isn’t covered. 

Studying in the Netherlands insurance 
With Studying Abroad insurance, pregnancy is insured after a 12-month waiting period.  

For women who have been insured under this healthcare insurance for more than 12 months, we cover: Obstetric care by a specialist, general practitioner or midwife and childbirth in a hospital or maternity hospital. 

With Standard cover, we reimburse a maximum of €4,000 for the entire pregnancy including childbirth. Under Extensive cover, we reimburse the cost price of treatment. 

Yes, you can. You have a 14-day cooling-off period. You can terminate or cancel your insurance during this period. If you no longer need your OOM Living Abroad insurance, OOM Temporary Residence Abroad insurance, OOM Studying Abroad insurance or OOM Studying in the Netherlands insurance, you can terminate it online at any time via your My OOM or by sending us an email. If you’ve already paid the premium in advance, we’ll refund any overpaid premium. 

Note: In your My OOM, you can only terminate your entire policy. If you have multiple types of insurance with us and only want to cancel part of your policy, please send an email to info@oomverzekeringen.nl.  

Schengen Visitor insurance or OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance
You have a 14-day cooling-off period. You can terminate or cancel your insurance during this period. Schengen Visitor insurance and Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance can only be terminated by sending an email to info@oomverzekeringen.nl. If you want to terminate after the start date and before the end date of the insurance, you should include one of the following documents: 

  • A rejection letter from the embassy or consulate stating that the visa application of the insured person has been rejected.   
  • If the insured person receives Dutch national health insurance, you should send a copy of their policy sheet. The insurance will be terminated from the day the Dutch national health insurance started.   
  • If the insured person has passed away, the insurance will be terminated from the day they died.  
  • If the insured person unexpectedly returns to their home country sooner than intended, we’ll request a copy of their plane ticket. The insurance will be terminated from the date the insured person leaves for their home country.   

If you want to terminate your insurance after the start date and before the end date, but are unable to provide any of the abovementioned documents, we’ll charge €25 in administration costs.  

To terminate your insurance, please send us the bank account number we should use to refund the premium. If you used a credit card or PayPal, please send us the confirmation and we’ll transfer the amount to your credit card or PayPal account.   

This depends on your policy.  

  • The maximum duration for OOM Temporary Residence Abroad insurance is 2 years.  
  • The maximum duration for OOM Studying Abroad insurance or OOM Studying in the Netherlands insurance is 5 years. 
  • If you have OOM Temporary Residence Abroad insurance, OOM Studying Abroad insurance or OOM Studying in the Netherlands insurance, you can extend your policy once by 60 days as long as the maximum term of your insurance has not yet been reached. You can extend your insurance via your My OOM
  • It’s not possible to extend your OOM Schengen Visitor insurance or OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance. You can, however, submit a new application.  

No, we do not offer Dutch national health insurance. We specialise in private healthcare insurance for people living, working or travelling abroad. This is different to the mandatory Dutch national health insurance. Because it is not a national health insurance, you are not eligible for the Dutch healthcare financial allowance.

To the Netherlands

Yes, we have just the insurance you need. If a friend or family member is coming to the Netherlands from abroad, we have the perfect solution for you.

OOM Schengen Visitor insurance
OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance is private healthcare insurance valid throughout the Schengen area. This provides limited healthcare insurance, which means that all existing symptoms and complaints, dental costs, pregnancy and childbirth expenses are excluded from the insurance cover by default. If you already have certain symptoms or complaints before the start date of the insurance and need to see a doctor during your stay in Europe for this, we will not reimburse these costs. We will reimburse any unexpected medical expenses you incur while you’re insured, e.g. a broken leg.   

This insurance meets the requirements for the Schengen visa. See our website for more information or to take out a OOM Schengen Visitor insurance.

OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance
OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance is private healthcare insurance for people staying in the Netherlands for up to one year. The applicant for this insurance, the policy holder, must live in the Netherlands, but the insured person on the policy does not. You’ll need to fill in a health declaration followed by a medical assessment before you can take out this insurance. OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands insurance is for people up to the age of 69 years. If the insured person is 70 years or older, please take a look at OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance

If you want to terminate after the start date and before the end date of the insurance, you need to include one of the following documents:

  • A rejection letter from the embassy or consulate stating that the visa application of the insured person has been rejected. Dutch national health insurance received. 
  • If the insured person receives Dutch national health insurance, you should send a copy of their policy sheet. The insurance will be terminated from the day the Dutch national health insurance started.
  • If the insured person has passed away, the insurance will be terminated from the day they died.
  • If the insured person unexpectedly has to return to their home country sooner than intended, we’ll request a copy of their plane ticket. The insurance will be terminated from the date the insured person has left for their home country.

If you want to terminate your insurance after the start date and before the end date, but are unable to provide any of the abovementioned documents, we’ll charge €25 in administration costs.

Schengen Visitor Insurance applies in all countries that fall under the Schengen area at the time of an insured event, and also in the following countries: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Croatia, Romania and the United Kingdom.  

This insurance does not apply in overseas territories of these countries such as Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. The insurance does not apply in your country of origin. 

Yes, it’s possible to move the start date of OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance. You can send an email to info@oomverzekeringen.nl before the start date of your insurance, giving the correct start date. We’ll then send you a revised policy sheet.

The Provisional Residence in the Netherlands can only be terminated by sending an email to info@oomverzekeringen.nl.
