Should you take out insurance if you’re going to study abroad?
If you’re going to study abroad, you should make sure you’re properly insured for medical expenses. The costs for medical treatment differ per country and can be quite high. Sometimes, you can just keep your Dutch health insurance, but that depends entirely on your travel destination and your personal situation. Please check the CAK website for all the necessary information.
If you’re not covered by Dutch national health insurance in the country where you’ll be studying, or if the medical expenses are a lot higher than in the Netherlands, you will need proper insurance. You can arrange your own insurance with OOM Studying Abroad Insurance.

Coverages for the ideal student insurance

If you can keep your Dutch national health insurance, we recommend you take out our insurance package. This will, for example, cover travel expenses if you have to suddenly return home, but also cancellation fees if your journey cannot go ahead.
