If you are receiving guests from abroad, they cannot take out Dutch national health insurance for medical expenses. They must be insured by other means for medical expenses in the Netherlands.
I’m receiving foreign guests
Travellers from the EU or EEA
If your guests are from the EU/EEA and are staying in the Netherlands for a short period of time, for example for travel, a family visit or holiday, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles you to necessary medical care in the Netherlands. Your guests can apply for this card from your health insurer in your country of origin.
The Dutch healthcare provider will invoice the costs to their insurer in their country of origin. Supplementary medical travel insurance may be useful, to avoid your guests having to pay additional costs.
Travellers from other countries
Your guests must make sure that they are insured for medical expenses in the Netherlands. If your guests come from a country requiring a visa and need to apply for a Schengen visa, they need to show that they are insured for medical expenses in the Netherlands.
What does OOM Verzekeringen offer?
For those staying in the Netherlands for a short time, for example for travel, a family visit or holiday, we offer OOM Schengen Visitor Insurance. This insurance offers cover for unexpected medical expenses and meets the requirements of the Schengen visa.
