Medical transport
The OOM Temporary Residence Abroad Insurance is a medical insurance for if you stay abroad for a longer period of time (up to a maximum of 2 years).
What does the insurance reimburse?
Whether you get reimbursement for medical transport depends on the cover you have chosen:
- Light cover: no reimbursement
- Regular and Comfort cover: You will receive reimbursement for seated medical transport if there is a medical necessity. The transport must be directly prior to your visit to a General Practitioner, specialist or hospital.
We will reimburse:
- public transport according to the lowest class tariff
- the taxi fare
- a maximum of €0.20 per kilometre if you travel in your own vehicle
Other rules apply to transport by ambulance.
Are there costs for you?
With the OOM Temporary Residence Abroad Insurance you can opt for no excess or an excess of €250, €500 or €1,000. If you have opted for an excess and you incur costs which are covered by the insurance, you then pay the first part of these costs yourself.
An example
You have to go to a hospital that is 100 kilometres from your place of residence 5 times for dialysis. You travel by taxi because you are too ill to drive or travel by public transport. The total costs are €400. If you have Regular cover and an excess of €250, you will receive a reimbursement of €150.
