MVV visa and your health insurance

Are you coming to the Netherlands and are you waiting for a residence permit? You will usually need an Authorisation for a Temporary Stay (MVV) first. This is a visa with which you can enter the Netherlands.

If you are waiting for a residence permit, you are not yet eligible for Dutch national health insurance. Dutch national health insurance is mandatory health insurance if you live and work in the Netherlands. However, you will have to prove you are insured for healthcare costs in the Netherlands when you apply for a visa.

With the OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands Insurance you will be properly insured for healthcare costs and you will meet the demands of the MVV visa.

Dentist and liability

You can take out supplementary insurance for dental costs and liability.

The health insurance covers dental costs following an accident up to €350. The supplementary OOM Dental Cover refunds costs for medically necessary dental costs which are not the result of an accident (up to €350).

You may also find yourself in situations in the Netherlands where you are held liable for damages. You can take out supplementary insurance for such instances. You will then be insured for damages caused by you to persons or things in the Netherlands up to €1,250,000.

Note

OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands Insurance can only be taken out if the applicant is a Dutch national and has a Dutch correspondence address. The insured person may have a foreign nationality, of course.
