SOS Insurance for students, interns and au pairs coming to the Netherland

When you are in need of urgent medical help in the Netherlands (or during a temporary stay outside the Netherlands) that cannot be performed on the spot and cannot be postponed, repatriation (transportation to…) is necessary. This may be to the Netherlands or to a hospital where the appropriate care for you can be provided.

Our SOS insurance covers:

  • all transportation costs to a hospital that is able to treat you
  • the cost of your return home
  • Search and Rescue
  • transport of mortal remains
  • the cost of transportation of one person in case of life-threatening illness or death of the insured

The Coverage Summary for Young Global Traveler insurance includes more information about the coverage.

There is no need to take out SOS insurance if you have taken out health insurance, since this coverage is already included for free in the health insurance.

Coverage for war and associated risks

OOM Verzekeringen is the only Dutch insurer that provides standard coverage for war and associated risks. War and associated risks includes armed conflict, civil war, uprisings, domestic unrest, riots and mutiny. There is normally no right to the reimbursement of medical expenses as the result of war and associated risks. We insure these costs as well. The costs of war and associated risks are insured on a mutual basis. This means that you will be reimbursed the cost price provided there are sufficient resources in the ‘war and associated risks fund’. If there are insufficient resources in the fund, you will be reimbursed a percentage.
