Tips and Guidelines for dealing with Illness or Damage on Global Visitor Insurance

You have taken out Global Visitor Insurance from OOM Verzekeringen and want to know what to do in the event of illness or damage. Tips and guidelines are provided below.


Hospitalisation

Do you need to be hospitalised? please contact OOM Insurance (+ 31 (0)70 353 21 00 or info@oominsurance.com)

We'll start an assessment to determine whether the hospitalisation costs are covered. We can only inform you and the hospital whether we will reimburse the costs once this assessment has been completed.

If the costs are covered, we will send a letter of guarantee to the hospital. This means that we will transfer the costs directly to the hospital. You then only have to pay your excess.

Whilst our assessment is still ongoing, we will not issue any guarantee. You must then pay the hospital bill yourself and claim from us afterwards. The Claim Form Global Visitor can be used for this purpose.

Accordingly, the earlier you notify us, the earlier you will know which costs are covered and the earlier we can make any arrangements regarding the costs with the hospital.

Other Medical Treatment

If you are sick and need a physician, you are free to consult physicians or hospitals (within the region of coverage). You pay the costs upfront. You can subsequently submit the original invoices via a claim form to OOM Verzekeringen. After deducting your excess, we will then reimburse the costs that fall within the coverage of your insurance.

Repatriation on Medical Grounds

If you need to be repatriated, contact OOM Verzekeringen as soon as possible. We will assess whether the repatriation falls under the coverage of the insurance. Our medical consultant will assess in each case whether the repatriation is medically necessary. If we give approval for the repatriation, we will also arrange the return trip to the country of origin or the Netherlands.

Transport of Mortal Remains

If an insured person dies, contact OOM Verzekeringen as soon as possible. We will assess whether the costs fall under the coverage of the insurance. Arranging the transport of the mortal remains is your own responsibility. If required, we can refer you to an organisation that can do this for you. You can claim the costs from us, provided these fall under the coverage of the insurance. The Claim Form Global Visitor can be used for this purpose.

Search and Rescue

Is an insured person missing or had an accident and has an official institution - e.g. the police - given instructions for a search and rescue or recovery? If so, contact OOM Verzekeringen as soon as possible. You can claim the costs from us, provided these fall under the coverage of the insurance. The Claim Form Global Visitor can be used for this purpose. Send a report from the official institution together with your claim form.

Theft or Loss of Official Travel Documents

In the event of the loss or theft of your official travel documents, file a report at the local police station. If that is not possible report the loss or theft to another competent person, such as the tour guide or hotel manager. Following this, report the loss or theft to the institutions that issued the official documents and request them to issue new documents. The police report and a breakdown of the costs that you incurred to obtain a new document must then be sent to OOM Verzekeringen. The Claim Form Global Visitor can be used for this purpose.

Accident

If costs are incurred as a result of an accident, you should also complete the Notification of an accident form.
