The Global Visitor Insurance Policy: For Everyone Who Is Coming to The Netherlands

If you are coming to the Netherlands to visit family or friends, to work, or are just travelling through, it may be advisable to take out good health insurance. The Global Visitor insurance policy from OOM Verzekeringen meets this need. 
 
Whether the insurance is actually necessary depends entirely on your situation. If you already have health insurance from your country of origin which is also internationally valid, it is possible that you will not need the Global Visitor insurance policy. Please ask your own health insurer to be certain. Please keep in mind that healthcare in the Netherlands may be more expensive than in your country of origin. This could mean that you may have to pay more than you expect. The Global Visitor insurance policy ensures that you will not have to pay these fees yourself.

The Exceptions

The Global Visitor insurance policy is a limited health insurance policy which requires no medical acceptance. The policy is intended to cover sudden and unexpected medical costs. Because no risk assessment is performed in advance, a few important exceptions apply, specifically: 

  • all existing medical conditions and complains are excluded, even if you were unaware of having a condition or complaint. Please find further information on this exception below, and be sure to read this information carefully; 
  • all costs associated with pregnancy or giving birth, (including miscarriages or maternity care) are excluded;  
  • dental costs are excluded (dental costs following an accident are insured up to a maximum of € 350.00).

 

Existing Medical Conditions and Complaints excluded

Medical conditions and complaints that already existed before or on the commencement date of the insurance policy are not insured, and therefore do not qualify for reimbursement. this is called the 'exclusion of existing medical conditions and complaints'. This applies not only to medical conditions and/or complaints that you already know you have, but also to medical conditions and/or complaints that you were unaware of but which nevertheless already existed. The exclusion of existing medical conditions and complaints clause is also important if you want to renew your insurance policy, as renewal is not possible. Renewal of this insurance policy is not possible

It is not possible to renew this insurance policy. You may, however, apply for a new insurance policy once your existing insurance expires. Existing medical conditions and complaints will, however, also be excluded in the new policy. This includes complaints for which you were reimbursed under the previous policy. If you do not yet know how long you will need the insurance for, we advise that you make it too long rather than too short. Please keep in mind that you will not be able to be refunded any excess premium if you have chosen the Global Visitor insurance policy.

The Duration of the Insurance

  • if you are younger than 70, you can take out the insurance for a maximum of 12 months; 
  • if you are between 70 and 79, the maximum term of the insurance is six months; 
  • if you are 80 or older, the maximum term of the insurance is three months.

The Amount of the Deductible Depends on Your Age

  • if you are younger than 70, the deductible is € 75 per person for each period insured; 
  • if you are between 70 and 79, the deductible is € 150 per person for each period insured; 
  • if you are 80 or older, the deductible is € 300 per person for each period insured.

Being Admitted to Hospital on the Last Day of Your Insurance Policy

If you have been admitted to hospital, or you are still being treated in hospital, on the last day of your insurance policy, we will cover the hospital fees for a further 30 days. These fees must obviously fall under the insurance coverage.

You Can Request a Premium Quotation and Apply for the Insurance Policy Online

If you are not expected to need admittance to hospital and you are healthy, then you can assume that you are eligible for this insurance policy. If you pay through the iDeal Internet banking service, you will receive your policy by e-mail within one hour. If it is not possible to pay via iDeal, we guarantee that the policy will be sent to you within five days after we receive your premium on our bank account.
