30 and above

If you are aged 30 or above and ...

  • you are coming to the Netherlands only to study;
  • you are not working in addition to studying;
  • you intend to return to your country of origin;
  • you are a resident of the Netherlands (you live in the Netherlands and are no longer registered in your country of origin)

Then you will be obliged to take out national health insurance.

If you are not a resident of the Netherlands, the legislation of your country of origin will apply to you as follows:

  • You are from a contracting country:
    If the law of your country of origin determines that you are entitled to the country-of-residence package, then you will be entitled to the same coverage as is offered by Dutch national health insurance. Otherwise, the terms of the legislation of your country of origin will apply. You may have to arrange for insurance.
  • You are from a non-contracting country:
    The legislation of your country of origin will determine what you must do. You may have to arrange for insurance.
